La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo Coming in May
A new La Gloria Cubana will be arriving in a little more than two weeks, and according to distributor Forged Cigar Co., it has some medio tiempo tobacco in the filler.
Called La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo, the new, regular-production cigar is named after medio tiempo, the defining tobacco incorporated into its blend. Medio tiempo is not a tobacco varietal, but rather, a sprouting of two leaves that sometimes grows atop a tobacco plant. Not all plants, however, produce medio tiempo. Some farmers have estimated that only one in ten plants produce these top leaves. Because of its top position on the stalk, this rare tobacco gets the most direct sunlight and is prized for its concentrated strength.
In this case, the medio tiempo was harvested from the top of some Connecticut broadleaf binder and Ecuador Sumatra wrapper.
Made in the Dominican Republic at the El Credito area of the General Cigar Dominicana factory, La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo comes in three sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 inches by 54 ring gauge; Toro at 6 1/8 by 50; and Churchill at 7 1/4 by 54. The cigars come packaged in 25-count boxes, will retail for $6.99 to $7.79 each, and are scheduled to arrive on May 4.
Forged says that the brand was blended to be medium bodied.
