Southern Draw Cigars Marks 10 Years With Decennium
Texas-based cigarmaker Southern Draw Cigars is celebrating ten years in the business and to honor this milestone it’s releasing a new cigar called Decennium, the Latin word for a decade. Retailers can expect shipments of the new cigar in about a week.
While previous Southern Draw releases were produced in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez, Decennium marks a departure for the company as it is made at El Titan de Bronze, a small factory run by Sandy Cobas in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. (A portion of sales are being donated to a charity benefiting the neighborhood.)
It’s a one-size cigar, a Lonsdale measuring 6 inches by 46 ring gauge. Decennium originally was intended to be a retailer exclusive, but was changed over to a regular production release. The blend consists of a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper atop a Dominican Criollo ’98 and Nicaraguan filler. According to the company, the cigar is medium in of strength.
The cigars are packaged in cardboard packs of three cigars, which retail for $44.99, giving the cigars an individual price of $15 each. For the initial release, production is limited to 5,000 three-packs (or 15,000 cigars) but is expected to increase to about 60,000 cigars, with other sizes and packaging styles possibly being added in the future.
Southern Draw owner Robert Holt told Cigar Aficionado several more collaborations with El Titan de Bronze are also expected in the future.
