Spain Puts Aged Juan Lopez Cigars in a Jar
A new, decorative ceramic jar full of 19 aged Cuban Juan Lopez Selección No. 1 cigars is being shipped to retailers across Spain. According to Spanish distributor Tabacalera S.L.U., the cigars were “rolled before 2016,” making each smoke no less than five years old.
Part of Spain’s Vintage Collection (or Colleción Vintage), each jar was made in Talavera de la Reina, a city in Toledo, Spain, known for its decorative porcelain and pottery. These limited editions are period pieces designed to resemble the Partagás jars of the 1920s, and retail for 285 euros each, or about $345. Only 2,000 jars were produced.
This is the ninth jar in the Vintage Collection and represents the first time the Collection has ever included cigars from Juan Lopez, a small brand that’s has been on the Spanish market for around three years.
The Juan Lopez Selección No. 1 is a standard Cuban corona gorda measuring 5 5/8 inches by 46 ring gauge, sharing its dimensions with other Cubans such as the Punch Punch.
In addition to the Vintage Collection, Spain also has a line of cigar jars called the Sevilla Series, which are glazed in different colors but are also modeled after older patterns from nearly a century ago.
