New Sizes From Padrón Now In Stores

This month, Padrón Cigars Inc. started shipping two new sizes of Padrón Dámaso and a new size of its Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series to retailers nationwide. The new Dámaso sizes are called No. 32 and No. 34, and the new 1964 Anniversary Series cigar has been dubbed Hermoso.

The torpedo shaped Padrón Dámaso No. 34 was introduced at Cigar Aficionado's Big Smoke 2015, presented by Jorge Padrón, president of Padrón Cigars, as part of a whiskey pairing seminar. At the time, it was commercially unavailable and was rolled shortly after the Dámaso brand was introduced to the market. The cigar is a fairly mild to medium-bodied blend of Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper and Nicaraguan tobacco. Dámaso No. 34, a pointy 6 inch by 52 ring gauge torpedo, ships in 20-count boxes and retails for $14.50 per cigar. The other new Dámaso vitola, No. 32, is a standard, straight-sided parejo measuring 5 1/4 by 52. The No. 32 also ships in 20-count boxes and retails for $13.75 each. With the commercial release of these two new sizes, there are now six regular-production vitolas in the Padrón Dámaso line.

An assortment of esoteric Opuses
Company president Jorge Padrón showed off these 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso cigars on a visit to Padrón's Miami headquarters in February.

The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso measures 4 by 56 and is available in both natural and maduro versions. It's a short, squat, box-pressed addition to a brand that now boasts a total of 12 regular-production vitolas. The Nicaraguan puro retails for $12.50 each and ships in wooden boxes of 26.

The 1964 Anniversary Series first launched in 1994, in celebration of the company's 30th anniversary. All cigars in the line are box-pressed and rolled with tobaccos that Padrón says have been aged four years. The Hermoso is the first new, regular-production size added to the 1964 Anniversary Series since 2012, when the No. 4 was released (6 1/2 by 60, 92 points, Cigar Insider).

Like all Padrón cigars, the new sizes are produced in Nicaragua, at Padrón's Tabacos Cubanica S.A. factory. The cigars are on store shelves now.
