Davidoff Nicaragua Celebrates 10 Years With Anniversary Gran Toro
It’s been a decade since the release of the Davidoff of Geneva is celebrating the milestone with a limited-edition cigar that includes some barrel-aged tobacco. Retailers can expect the new smoke to start shipping on July 6.
While the regular-production Davidoff Nicaragua line features an all-Nicaraguan blend, the new Davidoff Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited Edition notably differs as it's made with an Ecuadoran wrapper. Inside is a Nicaraguan binder grown in Jalapa with a mix of Nicaraguan fillers from Estelí, Jalapa and Condega. According to the company, all the tobaccos are aged longer than usual, including one of the Estelí fillers, a purportedly nine-year-old tobacco that spent six months aging in a rum cask. In of strength, the company stated that this is a full-bodied cigar.
The new line is being made in only one size, 6 inches long by 56 ring gauge, which the company refers to as Gran Toro. It has a suggested retail price of $36. Like the core Davidoff Nicaragua line, the Gran Toros are made in the Dominican Republic at the Cigars Davidoff factory.
Since its introduction in 2013, Davidoff Nicaragua has performed quite well in Cigar Aficionado taste tests and Top 25 lists. One of the original sizes, the Toro, was named the No. 3 for 2022, with a score of 95 points.
A total of 3,300 boxes (12-count) are allocated to the U.S. market.
In addition to the limited-edition cigar, Davidoff will also be releasing an anniversary cigar cutter as well. Limited to just 350 pieces, each one retails for $425 and is individually numbered.
