More than 4,000 eager cigar enthusiasts invaded the Mirage Hotel & Casino last week to take part in Cigar Aficionado's 20th annual Big Smoke Las Vegas weekend, arguably the largest cigar celebration in the world.
The weekend festivities included two nights of evening parties where cigar lovers gathered in a Mirage ballroom to enjoy top-shelf libations and smoke cigars that had been handed to them directly by many of their favorite cigarmakers. Saturday morning was filled with educational cigar seminars that covered a range of topics, including smoking the top three cigars of 2014 with their makers, getting caught up on Cuba, finding out how much work goes into making a maduro wrapper, the ins-and-outs of cigar humidification, and a special look at the inception of the Fuente Fuente OpusX, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
On Sunday, the seminars focus turned to lifestyle and attendees got the chance to tuck into a hearty breakfast fit for a cigar enthusiast as Chef Nicole Brisson of Carnevino demonstrated how to prepare it. This was followed by a roll your own cigar workshop before the final seminar, a pairing of fine Padrón cigars with Bourbons.
